The Rise of Silver

The Adventures of Luxe & The Preacherman, Episode 15:
"The Roach Coaches have evolved to highly decorated stylish food trucks, mobile restaurants invaded LA's streets. Then Retail Stores picked up the same idea and we start seeing boutiques on wheels in Hollywood. This trend is ongoing: avoid high rents and put all your stuff on wheels. Inflation you say? The Silver Surfer uses less gas than the Cafe Racer. So yes, we believe in the rise of silver and the emergence of The New American Nomad™."

"Winter Gypsies #9" - Digital Art by Patrick Janicke

"Winter Gypsies roam the snowy winter wonderland in the Northern parts of fameland. Winter Gypsies float in the translucent chamber of ChurchDeluxe™ the ever morphing vertical vehicular, that serves as both temple and vehicle to travel a world full of obstacles. The Winter Gypsies are almost constantly making out with one another and as a side effect they are creating the sexual energy necessary for the giant vehicle to move. Watching the hills like a Hollywood tourist, it arouses them to watch all the unusual sights in the land of fame. This in turn keeps the circulation of energy perpetuating itself. ChurchDeLuxe™is therefore considered fameland's "perpetuum mobile".

New Invisible Plane design for Wonder Woman by Patrick Janicke

In February of 2011 Patrick Janicke was hired by Warner Brothers' production designer Michael Wylie to design a plane for a new Wonder Woman TV series. The plane was supposed to be no larger than an SUV and have a modern concept car feel. Patrick Janicke started out with pencil drawings and discussed early concept sketches with Hollywood art director Christopher Brown. Later he built a computer model of Wonder Woman's plane to explore all angles and POVs. Unlike a car design, this vehicle, the plane, moves in all three dimensions and will therefore be viewed from its underside too. It has to look good from every angle. That's why the final stage of Patrick Janicke's design involvement with this Warner Brothers project was to create a previz type film, an animation of a virtual camera revolving around the computer generated plane.

Commercial Production Illustration using Maya and Photoshop

In another collaboration Production Illustrator Patrick Jänicke created set illustrations for production designer Johan Le Tenoux. Patrick built a 3D model of a set and rendered it using Maya. Finally he composited the Lexus LFA into his rendering using photoshop.

This is the pursuit of perfection!

Red Dawn - conceptual previz design

Bringing illustrations to life by building a CG model and animating a camera through it helps the production designer (Dominic Watkins) get an idea of the set before it is actually built.

What tools to use as a contemporary commercial artist ?
Designsfiction - Episode 68: Using professional 3D software
such as Autodesk's Maya for design pre-visualization in the entertainment industry.

Production Designer Andrew Reznik hired concept artist Patrick Janicke to help design the fantastic city "Milkquarious"for "White Gold" milk commercials.
Here are some samples of Patrick Janicke's ideas for quasi retro futuristic and humorous city planning.

Concept Design Previsualization for Motion Pictures

For the film " A Thousand Words", Patrick Janicke drew about 30 conceptual pencil illustrations of a tree that in a way plays its own character opposing Eddy Murphy. Production designer Clay Griffith chose a final design and a life size model was built. That full size tree was scanned to help concept illustrator Patrick Janicke build an accurate CG tree model. He also created different bodhi tree type leaves with texture maps. As the tree's loss of leaves is an important part of the film's narrative, Patrick did a series of previz movies to study the tree's transformation. In the movie's story, each leaf represents a word. When the tree dies and has only a thousand leaves left, Eddy Murphy's character realizes he is left with "A Thousand Words".
